A Place to Remember Your Natural Rhythm

About Jomon Matama

Hidden within a bamboo forest in northern Osaka, Jomon Matama is a place created for those who wish to slow down and reconnect with what truly matters.

This land invites a quieter way of being — where the body relaxes, the mind softens, and the spirit naturally realigns.
Here, time is not something to chase, but something to gently inhabit.

The space is rooted in the wisdom of ancient Japan, inspired by the Jomon era — a time when daily life was lived in deep relationship with nature, guided by gratitude and respect for unseen forces.

Jomon Matama is not a destination to consume, but a place to experience presence.
Whether you come to rest, create, or simply breathe more deeply, you are welcomed into an atmosphere shaped by simplicity, intention, and care.

Get away from busy everyday life
You can feel the silence,

About this sacred area

This land is located in the northern Osaka area known as Sendai-ji — a place historically recognized as a hidden Christian village.A portrait of Francis Xavier was once discovered here, indicating the deep spiritual layers that have long existed in this region.

Several years ago, during major land development and expressway construction in the surrounding mountains, a large number of ancient artifacts were unearthed, including Jomon pottery, bronze implements, and relics from multiple historical periods, revealing that this land has been continuously inhabited and revered since ancient times.

About Kinki Pentagram

Jomon Matama also lies within the sacred geometric alignment known as the Kinki Pentagram — a star-shaped formation connecting five major spiritual sites of Japan

  • Ise Grand Shrine
  • Kumano Hongu Taisha
  • Izanagi Shrine
  • Moto-Ise
  • Mt. Ibuki

This pentagram is believed to represent an ancient spiritual boundary and a man-made ley line created intentionally by ancient people.
The pentagram is known in Japanese Onmyodo tradition as a powerful protective symbol, believed to ward off negative influences and protect sacred land.

The Kinki Pentagram is also interpreted as a spiritual boundary that protects the ancient capital of Heyjokyo and marks the spiritual axis of Japan.

About the Meaning of the Name “Jomon Matama”

The name Jomon Matama comes from two ancient Japanese words.
Jomon refers to the prehistoric culture that flourished in Japan more than 13,000 years ago — a time when people lived in deep harmony with nature, prayer, and the unseen world.

The word Matama is derived from the ancient sacred jewel Magatama.
By removing “Ga (我)” — the ego — what remains is “Matama (真霊)”, meaning True Spirit.

Matama also carries the meaning of “Madama (磨魂)” — polishing the soul.
It expresses a return to one’s true essence, beyond ego, fear, and separation.

From polishing the soul,
to returning to the True Spirit,
this path leads us back to who we truly are.

We use the English name Jomon Matama so that people around the world can feel close to this sacred concept.

Matama is a place where
People meet heart to heart,
everyone can relax,
and peace and joy are gently remembered.

In an uncertain world where hearts are easily unsettled,
we choose to raise a quiet flag of hope.

*Its rare thatched roof, crafted from natural reeds, is currently being carefully renewed to preserve the beauty and integrity of this space for generations to come.

Alongside Jomon Matama stands Kaguya-tei, a small bamboo-side cottage offering private stays.
Together, these spaces form a quiet sanctuary — one that supports stillness, creativity, and meaningful time.

Jomon Matama
is a place for those who value inner depth and find meaning in stillness.
